Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Today marks the 25th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’” In his honor, today would be a great time to ask yourself that question. Here are a few ways to celebrate what you can do for others.
Turn your passion into action.
Maybe you love reading, knitting or cooking. Whatever your hobby, there’s a way you can turn that passion into helping another. Think creatively. If you love baseball, consider coaching a little league team this spring.
Ask your friends.
Volunteering is more fun when you are doing it with a group of friends. Join a friend who volunteers on a regular basis and see if it’s a fit for you. Or mobilize a group of friends and agree upon an organization to help out for a few hours. Who knows, this just might turn into a regular event.
All the small things.
You don’t have to rely on an organized group to be helpful. Look for ways to help your neighbors. Cook a nice meal. Scoop the snow off the walk. Little things can make a big difference. Martin Luther King Jr. would appreciate your efforts in building a better community.
